Emergency management professionals, responders, and disaster based organizations face a wide variety of barriers in reaching and meeting the needs of this vulnerable population before, during, and after disasters. To address these issues, the Independent Living Network (ILN) has created a multi-agency coalition that is prepared to collaboratively work with emergency management professionals.
Participants of this training will be able to:
1) Discuss and describe innovative and inclusive strategies the ILN can provide to emergency management professionals to help them: reach people with disabilities and improve their health, safety and independence.
2) Explore lessons learned from the experiences between the ILN, emergency management, and other disaster professionals during current and recent disasters (i.e.COVID-19 Pandemic, Hurricane Irma, Michael, and Doran).
3) Describe how to collaborate on efforts between the ILN and emergency management to meet the disaster related needs of people with disabilities before, during, and after disasters.
